In accordance with Circular No 23 BRF & AL Hd Qrs Asst Com'r State of Va I have the honor to forward the following report.

It would be desirable to establish schools for Freedmen in the following localities, in this County, one at this village. One at Black Walnut, distant from this place 12 miles. Clover 14 miles: News Ferry 11 miles. Republican Grove 20 miles. At this place there is no suitable building to be procured, and the cost of erecting one would be about $400.00, and although no opposition would be offered to a school here and the Citizens express a desire to see the Freedmen, educated. Yet they will Contribute nothing towards it, giving as a reason their present inability to do so. A competent teacher could be procured here, if the salary could be guaranteed.

The probable number of scholars would be say 50 and in some instances a portion of the expense of schooling would be borne by the Freedmen
