Virginia Richmond Va July 18" 1866 [[3 Columned Table]] | Reply to Ques. No IX Concerning Names of local friends to the enterrise.- | Reply to Ques. No X Concerning State of public sentiment regarding F. Schools. | General Remarks. | | --- | --- | --- | | I am not able to give the name of any able white citizen who is anxious to have the schools established or who would give any "material aid" to the matter.- | I am of the opinion that among the poorer classes of whites in this County, there is much bitter hostility cherished toward the establishment of Colored Schools.- I have heard nothing from the better classes, indicating any settled opposition to the movement.- A few perhaps could be found among the whites, who would aid the enterprise but not by contributing funds. | I am of the opinion that but little encouragement will be received from the white citizens of this county concerning the colored school question, that is at this time.- The colored people here as elsewhere are anxious to have them established, but they can do nothing scarcely in the premises. A large proportion of the adults will take advantage of the opportunity and I think one School House in each Magisterial district will be filled without doubt. | [[text cut off]] wledge and belief the foregoing statement is correct.
