A suitable lot can be obtained without any buildings on it at a cost of six hundred dollars, it will cost about one thousand dollars to erect a school house on it 
About seventy five pupils can be obtained Freedmen will furnish the lights and fuel and are unable to do more. 
Board can be had near the school house at twenty five dollars per month, Messrs Lock, Lincoln Gaston, Thomas Thurman, Henderlight and Goodall are favourably inclined towards schools for freedmen, the public sentiment is becoming more favourable towards schools, for freedpeople. 
On the Sub dist comprising the counties of Washington Russell Buchanan (and lately the counties of Lee Scott and Wise there are four points in Washington County that schools might be established, Abingdon, Saltville, Glade Springs and Bristol, at Abingdon the freedpeople  have erected a school house capable of accomodating from ninety to one hundred students which is furnished with seats desks and Black Boards, the freedmen will furnish fuel, and lights pay cost price of school Books, are unable to do more. Teachers can be boarded at ($20) twenty dollars per month
