Wesley Johnson, all Freedmen.
10. The state of the public sentiment with reference to schools for freedmen is very good indeed, with but few exceptions, and nearly all, both White and Black, are my anxious than a school at this place.
11t. As everything is so favorable for it I would suggest that the building referred to above be repaired, and a school started here immediately, a teacher can be sent there as soon as she is wanted.
There are (2) two schools already in operation in the City of Winchester, one of which is supported by the Old Presbyterian Association of Pittsburg, Pa. The building is partially hired by the Govt, and the balance of the expenses are paid by the association The number of regular attendances at this time is about 125 scholars, and will be greatly increased during the winter months, and the other is a private school, conducted by Mr James Washington (a Colored Schoolmaster) and the expenses incurred are paid by charging the scholars further for their tuition.

All of which I respectfully submit
Gilbert R Chandler
Capt. V.R.C. & Asst. Supt.
