Baptist Home Mission Society". The plan on which these schools are conducted is to classify the pupils in 3 grades, Primary, Intermediate and Advanced, making so far as is practicable but one grade in each school. The books and the general manner of teaching are the same as now adopted and in use in the schools of New York and Boston.  When the scholarship of the pupil is of the prescribed grade he attends the school nearest his home, except in the advanced school where pupils attend from all parts of the city.  None attend the night schools but adults, and such children as are unable to attend the day schools, none others are admitted.  120 males and 119 females attend the night school in this city.

The demand for schools in this Division is daily increasing. 40 schools of 50 pupils each could be established in this city & vicinity, but at present the
