In compliance with Circular No. 5 dated War Department Bureau R.F. and A.L. Washington Feb. 20th. 1867. I have the honor to report that there are no schools in either Madison or Greene Co. Va. at the present time. At Madison Ct. House a school could be established if means were furnished and at least one hundred pupils between the ages of six and twenty one could be obtained
At Stanardsville Greene Co. Va. there is a School House which was repaired by the freedmen last year and is now occupied by them as a Church  This building can now be used as a School house by them and from "fifty to seventy pupils be obtained between the ages of six and Twenty one.. I was unable last fall to obtain
