Report of Value, Capacity and Condition of Oak Hill Freedpeople's School House, and how owned, Maj Stone Assistant School Commissioner, furnished ($150,) in. December 1867, to build the house; it is worth that or more, for school purposes, The capacity is 20 feet long by 16 feet wide, One hundred is the greatest number that can possibly be seated at once; though Two hundred are sometimes taught in one day (Sunday) in warm weather. There are three divisions of students, viz: Sunday students week-day & night students, and are not permitted to unite: that is: the day students. not allowed to crowd out the Sunday or night students, I have tried to obtain some aid from benevolent associations in the North, in order to add to our house; but find that I applied too late, societies having pledged the full extent of their ability to raise subscriptions Wellville Nottoway Co Va March 18th 1869, J.N.
