I have the honor to make the following report in compliance with Circular No 17 dated Bureau R.F&AL Head Quarters Ass't. Com'r. Dist of Virginia Richmond Va Decr 20th 1867 requiring Officers and Agents to make a personal inspection of all Freedmen's Schools in their Divisions at least once in two months, I have visited the following schools in this Division.
No 1. Dempsey Hare School C. Miles from Carrsville Teacher A. B. Corliss (White) Condition good then and 56" pupils. Average attendance 24" White pupils 4" pupils paying tuition 4" in alphabet 13" Spell & read easy lessons 27. advanced readers 16" in arithmetic 8. in writing 10" Mr Corliss has a Sabbath School with 4 teachers. Pupils 114"" amount of tuition paid by pupils 75/100, Rent of building.
