to pay the tuition of their children. I believe there are but four of this class of schools in successful operation in this Division. These schools are located Broad Street near Brook Avenue, 3rd Street, M.E. Church, (cold), 17th Street near Grace and presided over by a Mr Fuller, Rev. Mr. Hall, and Miss Fanny Troy (cold) and Miss Rush. There are several other private schools in the aggregate not more than thirty scholars. The several schools Cor. 6th and Duval Sts, are progressing finely while inspecting the educational condition of the schools I was surprised with the intelligence of some of the small scholars. I believe some of them as far advanced in learning as any whites of the same age in the country. In the normal school at the above named place I found the scholars who are mostly females well advanced in their studies.
