Sir
Pursuant to Cir. No 17. Hd. Qrs. Asst. Comr. S. 1867, I have the honor to report that I have visited No.1 Lincoln school at Eastville Northampton Co. Va. This school is taught by Miss Mary J. Doxie and Miss R.G.C. Patton and is in a prosperous condition. The pupils in attendance seemed well behaved, and were making fine progress in their studies. A part of them were especially apt. and are far advanced for pupils that have had so few advantages.

The condition and prosperity of this school is such, as to incourage the friends of education for the freedmen, and silence those who believe and say that this race are incapable of improvement by means of literacy culture.

Very respectfully,
your obedient servant
