but we have taken measures to collect funds to build a building that will do for a School-House and Church and expect assistance from the Bureau, as soon as we get a good title to the land.
A large number attend the Sabbath School kept at the Court House and Conducted by the Waldron Sisters which appears to have a good efect on the youth.
The School kept by Miss Townsend at News Ferry has done well, and with the difficulties she has had to contend with; has made progress that would do credit to Horace Mann; the School is kept in a cabin built by the Freedmen, with only two small windows; with loose bords for a floor, and some planks proped up for seats. the school on an average are as for advansed as white schools are under the most favorable circumstances, for the same length of time.
Measures have been taken to fit up the house so as to make it suitable for the purpose, and will be done as soon as I can contract with a carpenter.
