| Jan 3 1866 David Bell New Berne Complains that a colored woman Ann Briney refuses to vacate premises on Pollock & Muddy Sts rented to Finch Executor of Miss A.J. Briney. | Told Bell to evict by Civil process - & let the woman appeal to me.  Jos B Hilton states in behalf of Ann Briney that the house was erected for her life use by Robt S Briny one of the heirs now in Missisippi, & that he would not be willing to have her evicted. Has been written to about it.
Have order to Ann Briny to remain until Robt S Briny could be heard from   L.B. p 619 |

| Richard Tucker col'd Asks permission to remove fence he had erected on the aband lot on Broad & Metcalf Sts | E Hobbs states in letter that the agreement with Training Dept authorizes removal of improvements - Gave order to Tucker to remove & have reasonable time to do so. LB p 620 |

| Benj Kennedy col'd His family (wife & 4 children) were engaged by Bright Kennedy to work the season for a share of the crop. After Kennedys death plantation was run by Franklin Sutton Adm. When the crops were gathered the share belonging to the hands was given to the Foreman Allen a colerd man to divide. The Kennedys have never receivd their share | This man was introduced by Jas M Parrott of Kinston who confirms the statement, and speaks in kind terms of Sutton as a man who means to deal fairly. Addresses Fras George Shaw Esq Prest Nat Relief Assn N.Y. Maj Gen Howard directs that certain property at Roanoke Island occupied by N.F.R Assn will not be surrendered until the Freedmen are otherwise accommodated. Suggests that some third party purchase the property, and then transfer the title to the Representative of sd Association. | Washington Nov 23d 1865 Respectfully referred to Col Whittlesey Asst Comr whose attention is invited to the within communication. The land on which these buildings are situated will not be surrendered until the Freedmen are otherwise suitably accommodated. It is suggested that he cooperate with Mr Shaw in obtaining title to the property as within suggested. By order of Gen Howard signed Woodhull AAG
