in the presence of the officer of the Bureau he Borowed from me and acknowledged that he did certainly recive the money and the Mule and also that he had sold the mule and received the money and also I had a man of worth with me as a witness of the transactions who did testify these same things Before the Bureau and then the officer of the Bureau told me that I would have to lose the mule and money as I had a horse I aplied to the Bureau at Beaufort and stated the case and he told me to apply to the officer of the day at New Berne and that seemed to me as a very poor resort and knowing that North Carolina was under your command I apply to you for that advice and assistance which is in your power to give if you is not the proper authority for me to apply please write me word to who I shall apply
