Sir,
In making my report for the month of Dec 1865 I have been necessary hindred on account of sickness being absent from Edenton on leave and did not return until Dec 10th when I found things in a very bad state owing somewhat to my absence, but as soon as possible I have organized the Labor of Chowan county [[erased]] Con [[/erased]] and at the date of writing have succeeded in finding homes for the greater part of the colored people for the year at wages ranging from three to fifteen dollars per month while a large part of colored people have been able to do much better by raising the crop on shares the owner finding team and utensils & feeding team, and in many cases the Laborers & such sharing alike in the crop, & there is a willingness and anxiety on the part of the whites to employ them at good living prices, & so far, I have [[strikethrough]] here [[/strikethrough]] found a ready cooperation on the part of all respectable persons in assisting me in my duties.

As to orphans and other minors I have apprenticed twenty one and enclosed you will find duplicate copies of that number of Indentures and if these copies are incorrect please return thme with the necessary instructions for correction.
Cases of crime are not frequent, and none of much moment, I have had but very little trouble in these cases the colored people are generally good
