Sir

I have the honor to report all quiet in this sub district. Since I arrived here I came to the conclusion that it would be better that I had some men sent here, they can be spared from Elizabeth City, the Capt writes me, but he needs the order for that purpose. I want a sergeant & four men if possible, as the sergt I have has been promoted & will be obliged to report to his company.

My pay rolls were sent me from Raleigh, because the paymaster could not pay the 12 days 2d Lieuts pay, I filled out another set for Feby. & March & requested Lieut Beecher, to have a check drawn to your order, please let me know the result as soon as received. The reason I ask for these men is the fishing season is nearly over & I anticipate some trouble in the settling up of the cases, & it is best to be prepared
