March 23rd Respectfully returned to the Asst Agnt Genl Sept of N.C. with report that the Quartermasters bill of sale is evidently genuine and that it describes correctly the mule in question. The evidence goes to show that the property belongs to Mr. Fay. Geo F Shaffer Lt Col 28th Mich Vols Comg 4 New Berne Feb 23 Respectfully referred to Col E Whittlesey Asst Coms N.C. The case does not appear in any way to come under the control of the Bureau.
