Raleigh Mar. 30. 1866

Capt.

Your telegram respecting horses is received. I see no way to get them. There are none in Col. Garber's hands unless it be at New Bern. And he cannot transfer any to us without an order from the Sec'y. of War, which I think it useless to ask for. You must therefore use the teams now in your permission, & do what you can with them. In Goldsboro' the owner of the land agreed to furnish the necessary teams, and has done so. You might risk buying a few mules, if they could be found.
