Respectfully forwarded. Mr Oliver had this property restored to him as administrator of the deceased owner who [[strikethrough]] died [[/strikethrough]] is reported to have died in a Federal prison. Mr O. had in his possession a deed of the property indicating that he had purchased it for the sum of $2000 during the year 1863. This deed was not recognized by the Treasury Dept or this Bureau as valid. It however shows the value of the property at that time, on which I have based my offer of rent.

I presume a much larger rent perhaps $100 per month could be got for it but I have not supposed that the Govt in the face of repeated orders and decisions concerning abandoned property, would pay any such exorbitant rate. The greatest pains have been taken to prevent the use of this property being an annoyance to Mr Oliver, and had he intimated such a thing the portion actually required by me would have been closely fenced. There is no other property in town or conveniently located for our use & none that can be procured for any more reasonable rate than is asked for this.
