No. 6.

H. S. Sanitary Commission
Army and Navy Claim Agency,
242 F Street, Washington, D. C.
June 11 1866.

Madam
The [?] of Richard [?] which you forwarded to this office, under date of June 1866. (?) received , and will be examined, and, if found correct, filed in the proper Governmental Department.
Owing to the great pressure of business in all the departments, a very considerable delay in the adjustment of claims is frequently unavoidable. This is especially true in case of arrears of pay and bounty on account of deceased soldiers. Your claim will receive all necessary attention; and, if anything further is required to sustain it, you will be duly notified.
Letters of inquiry, in regard to the state of your claim, will be duly answered. To insure a prompt reply, every letter should give the full name and post-office address of the claimant, the name, company and regiment, with date of discharge or death, of the soldier, the nature of the claim, and, if possible, the date at which it was sent to this office.
In case of removal from your present residence, please notify this office promptly, that your correct address may be known whenever we wish to communicate with you.

Very truly yours,
William F. Bascom, General Agent
