Respectfully referred March 17. 1866, by Capt. Seely Supt to Capt. I.A. Rosecrans Asst Supt. New Berne for report, how the quarters are occupied. These papers to be returned.

New Berne N. C. March 17th, 1866.

(Sgd) Isaac A. Rosekrans Asst Supt

New Berne, Mch. 19th 1866.
Respectfully returned with reference to above endorsement of Capt Rosecrans Asst Supt. The house contains (6) six rooms, besides the kitchen, which has always been occupied by a former servant of Dr Masters. The Office consists of two rooms & a loft, only accessible by a ladder. Reference is respectfully requested to my endorsement of Jan 18th in a similiar application to which I may add that the Attorney employed by Dr M. to manage this business for him with Capt James who formerly occupied the premises found the applicant, so violent, that he was compelled to abandon his case. The story that Capt Rosecrans keeps a boarding house is absurd, he has no room for a boarder.

Seely, Capt. and Supt.

[] Dr Saml Masters. []

Raleigh, Mch 22nd 1866
Respectfully forwarded. Capt James at one time offered ¢50 pr month to Dr. Masters for his house which was indignantly refused, his only object being as he then stated to drive the d— Yankees out of New Berne. Capt Rosencrans is now willing to pay reasonable rent for the property
