Colonel,
I have the honor to report, that at present, the Smallpox appears to be increasing, as five or six deaths have occurred this day. [[?]] is [[?]] that an almost insuferable obstacle exists to the proper treatment of this disease, in the absurd reluctance of the patients & their friends to informing the Medical Officers of the attack,& the insane attempts at Concealment- until the facts are revealed by the death of the [[?]]- & the spreading of the disease.
I beg leave, respectfully, to recommend that since Reliable Colored men be- hired to spend all his time in visiting around in Newborne, & in the Front River Settlement, hunting up smallpox cases, reporting the same, for immediate removal,
