Lieut Col Stephen Moore

Sir

At the suggestion of Col Wm. H. Wiegel, I am prompted to apply to you for some laborers. He told me there were colored persons who wished to get employment in this state. I want a settled man and his wife. The man to be a good axman plowman and to understand farm work generally in raising wheat corn & vegetables; polite & steady. Woman to be neat and competent to cook well for a genteel family. Wash iron & good milker. Honest steady & polite. If such can be had and they have a daughter of goof raising & son too, I will take them also, say daughter 11 to 14 years old boy 14 to 16. He to have been raised upon a grain farm. For this lot I will pay for one year +two hundred & eighty to three hundred dollars, furnish them with a comfortable quarter to live in with plenty of fire wood and their provisions, such as I live upon, hog & homeney and all kinds of vegetables. I am arranging labor for another year. I will be much pleased to hear from you on the subject at your earliest convenience.

Very respectfully
Wm. B. Willis
