Sir, About two years ago Elija a negro woman that formerly belonged to me brought an order for two children of hers.  The girl's father was dead and I of course gave her up.  The boy whose father was living did not want her to have him & wished now to retain him. I did so but gave her a letter to the Freedman's Bureau stating what I had done.  She has been in the neighborhood several times since and said nothing about the boy and I presumed that of course the Beaureau thought as I did that the father had control of his children.
