Craven County }

Sarah Richardson, (Colored) a citizen of Newbern, N,C, being duly sworn deposes & says that on or about the first of April 1865, one Alonzo Britt, alias Stonelake, came to her store in Newbern & stated that he had been a Contract Surgeon in the Federal Army, that he had come to Newbern with a Government permit to purchase cotton, Naval Stores &c, at which place he intended to establish himself permanently in business, that he was the owner of a large amount of property & a particular friend to the colored people, that by these & numerous other representations of a false character he inveigled himself into her confidence & succeeded in obtaining from her money & goods to the amount of twenty five hundred dollars, no part of which has he refunded to her. The said Britt is a small man weighing about one hundred & twenty pounds, between twenty five & thirty years of age, light complection, wears glasses, had side whiskers of sandy complection
