Federal Works Agency Work Projects Administration 1734 New York Avenue, NW Washington, D.C. Howard O. Hunter Acting Commissioner of Work Projects June 13, 1941 Mr. Yasuo Kuniyoshi 118 Waverly Place New York, New York Dear Yas: Certainly I am very glad to write a letter for you. I also took the liberty of calling up the Section of Fine Arts and learn from Ed Rowan that Forbes is also writing a letter. It seemed to me that it would be good to have something from Ed Bruce and his organization since I know that many artists have been questioned recently. One of our artists in Richmond, a very nice young man, who had his Government papers and a Government camera, was held by the police for several hours until he could be identified. I would suggest that in going through the southwestern states you make contact with various people in the art world as you go along. No doubt, you will know that museum people, and I am enclosing herewith a list of our state art supervisors and the directors of the community art centers. While I do not know all of these personally I am sure they would be glad to be of assistance to you. If you are going to New Mexico, I would certainly look up Vernon Hunter. With kindest personal regards, Very cordially, Eddie Holger Cahill Enclosures - 2
