I was very happy to get your letter and I will try and answer your question & tell you all about my activities & attitude concerning the total war & myself. I was born in southern part (Okayma) [[miswritten Okayama]] of the main island of Japan a long long time ago & I came to[[in?]] America in 1906 as a boy all by myself - That was a long time ago too - As a boy I was very romantic & want to see the world & new people [?] I diden't have any idea I wanted to be an artist then, I just came here & planed to go home after a few years studying English, fearing[?] that was about all I had in my mind when I first came here. 

I landed in Seattle & to Los Angeles where I attended public school, one of teachers urged me that I should study painting because I had some talent, that was how I
