Dear James and other boys and girls of Sheldon School:
I should have written an answer to your letters a long time ago but I have been so busy, one thing after another [[strikethrough]] which [[/strikethrough]] delayed my writing to you until today. I hope you will forgive me.
I certainly enjoyed reading every one of your letters. It was very sweet and kind and I will always cherish them. I wish I could answer each one of them individually but since I can't do that I can only hope someday we will meet somewhere, maybe at your school, and then I can thank you personally and talk to you about [[strikethrough]] and [[/strikethrough]] all the things you wish to know.
In the meantime I thought you might like to know, James, that the Office of War Information heard about your letter and liked it so much they build a script around it to broadcast short-wave to the East. Naturally you weren't here so O.W.I supplied a boy to take your place and I, myself, read my own letter.
Another thing in connection with your letter. The other day [[strikethrough]] a [[/strikethrough]] I have a talk to the art Students of the High School of Music and Art, New York City, and told them how you and other students of Sheldon School wrote to me. They wanted copied of your letter and mine to print in their school paper.
A very Happy New Year to all of you [[strikethrough]] from [[/strikethrough]]
Your friend,
