Dear Mr. Bruce:
I feel that in the face of the present crisis everyone should do [[strikethrough]] their [[/strikethrough]] his utmost to insure the United States victory against Japan and the Axis forces.
Having lived in America since 1906 -- since boyhood, my interests--my friends--my home are all here and if the law had permitted, I would have become an American citizen long ago.
I would like to share and contribute my efforts to the United States Government today like my fellow artists are doing. A few short days have changed my status in this country although I, myself, have not changed at all. As you know, my activities in the past have been those of a loyal subject of the United States and I have not hesitated to let my sentiments be known concerning the Japanese' cruel invasion of China.
In brief, I consider America my country and I am writing to you as Chief of the Section of Fine Arts of the Public Building Administration, Federal Works Agency, to offer my services for Artists' Civillian Defense. As an artist I believe I am capable and experienced. It will be an honor and a privilege to serve the country to which in sentiment I belong and I will be forever grateful to you for helping me do some work for the American Government.
Very respectfully,
Yasuo Luniyoshi
