Since this article was written we have waged war and been engaged in one of the greatest conflicts in our time. We fought the Axis and our Allied might proved victorious. However our enemies destructive ideology has not been conquered and as long as [[strikethrough]] its evils persist we must be on guard. Today the artist has a moral responsibility to defend his freedom as well as that of his countrymen. He has prospered through the encouragement and recognition accorded him by Museums, schools, enlightened organizations and progressive individuals. With them in spite of the [[strikethrough]] atomic [[strikethrough]] threat, he must continue to create and build a great American art.
