Sometime ago when I was in subway waiting for train -- station wasn't so crowded -- I saw a stranger, looked like out-of-town man, was lost in the subway, didn't know which was was uptown or downtown or which train he should take.

I knew he was lost because he looked at me with inquiring gesture, then he went to man standing next to me. He was asking how to get to Bfonx with Middle West accent. The man next to me, he was a white man, but he was apparently stranger to this country, and not only stranger in New York City but he couldn't speka a word of English. So when question was asked, he didn't know what it was all about.

I felt rather silly. I know what train he should take and which side was uptown train going by, but I felt hurt because being Oriental [[strikethrough]] Tx [[/strikethrough]] they dismiss altogether as though we don't understand English. But I felt kind of sorry for him so I gave him direction. He was rather dumbfounded but I felt kind of good.
