sunday august 27    woodstock

When I first landed in Vancouver in 1906, it was great sight. Even today I can picture the town very vividly. Everywhere were brick buildings and English writing on walls of these buildings advertising all kinds of products. I was very enthusiastic seeing an altogether new kind of scene.

We were led into Japanese hotel. They still fed us partly Japanese and partly American food, but somehow flavor of American food in Japan and food I ate there was different.

Among the group of people who stayed in hotel there was a school teacher who dreamed of making a lot of money in this country and he was already about 40 years old but he had great big ambition and I didn't question any further that this is the country where everyone came to make big money though we can pick money from the street.

He made a terrible blunder the first day . I remember very clearly.

Naturally when we landed safely, everybody wrote letters to relatives in Japan. We went out together to post letter s but in no place in street could we find any place to put mail. Finally he came upon a red box and we both peeked in to see where letter could be dropped. It was hinged on telegraph pole [[crossed out]] and [[/crossed out]] on the corner across from the hotel.
