tuesday august 29 woodstock 

   I saw Judson Smith this morning. I wanted to see him because he is always kind and nice man. Although he is peculiar man.-- In a way I hate to see him because everytime I see him he depresses me. I try not to see him if I can help it but since I was here and he knew I was here, I thought I'd better drop in to say hello. As usual he was cordial and immediately started [[strikethrough]] to [[/strikethrough]] complaining about recent job in Texas University. Everytime he talked about his painting, I tried to switch it off toward some other gossip or something to avoid discussing his work. I stopped in there just about lunch time so that I could g et away quickly. But he dragged on talking about his work and his attitude. 
   He said he has gone back to abstract again. He felt that abstract is more his medium and he hoped to continue to do this type of work. Yet the next minute he says "I have given up paining and I will never go down to teach in Texas," but I doubt very much that he will ever give up painting b because few minutes after this conversation he asked me which dealer is good to go to, the type of work that he is doing.
