This war was a very serious and terrible thing to me and I realized that necessiety of every man's taking a share of the burden. So I eagerly volunteered to do whatever I could as an artist and as a man that would be useful to this country.
I felt that I was rather lucky in doing propaganda for the Donovan Committee. It made me happy to take even this small part in the nations war effort. Needless to say, I want to do much more than this. Like you, I feel that I could be of more use in the field I know best, and I hope soon we will be able to function as artists in this emergency.

What is the artist's role in war?
It is hard and difficult question, being hashed and rehashed by more than 7000 artists in this vicinity, and many thousand more throughout the country.
What can the artist do to help America deliver a victory to the Allies??
