Up to this time I believe we have been barking up the wrong tree in our effort to place ourselves in relation to the war.
We have organized for this purpose under the name Artists' Council for Victory. But I have learned recently that this organization has accomplished almost nothing. We wanted to do propaganda and educational art---but for this job the government has expressed its preference for work of the commercial artist, the illustrator, the cartoonist, as opposed to the contribution of the fine artist. except for a handful artist who are working on the project.
It is futile to wait for the government to provide for [[strikeout]]our[[/strikeout]]the use of [[?]]
We must solve this problem by ourselves. It is up to us to make our own adjustments and find some way to make it possible for us to be useful, not negatively, but with our experience as artists. Some way to contrive to make ourselves indispensable to the war effort.
How can we do this? Specifically I do not know, but I know this much, we must first function as a group
