[[strikethrough]] I felt that I was rather lucky in doing for the Donvan Committee. It made me happy to take even this small part in the nations war effort. Needless to saym I want to do much more [[/strikethrough]]than this.
I feel that I could be of more use in the field I know best, and I like you, I hope soon we will be able to function as artists in this emergency.

What is the artist's role in war?
It is a hard and difficult quesiton, being hashed and rehashed by more than 7000 artists in this vicinity, and many thousand more throughout the country.
What can the artist do to help America deliver a victory to the Allies? According to all I have heardm there seem to be two schools of thought on the subject.
One group believes that the artist should shut the window and keep right on with his work. Perhaps making some concession to public opinion by painting war or religious pictures to support behind-the-lines morale, so to speak.
