July 9, 1949

Dear Ed:

Thank you for your good letter. It was very nice seeing you again and we enjoyed our stay in L.A. We wished that we had more time and had a chance to renew acquaintances.

I saw the articles about Equity in both papers and I am glad that things went o.k.

As you know my heart is all for Equity and I would do anything to come down for your very important big meeting on July 29th, but I don't see how I can manage it. We are about settled here and my teaching job has started (47 students). I want to do some painting and make notes on the ghost towns of northern California and I am racing against time to do whatever I can in the short period of my stay here. There is also an Equity meeting planned in San Francisco sometime at the end of this month. Equity realizes that this area is represented very poorly. There are so many potential Equity members floating around without even the knowledge that our organization exists. I wish there were artists like you, Rico and Emil representing the area too. However we have to do everything we can to organize the Bay area artists and have a big meeting.
Will you please see my side of it and explain to the board for me why I cannot make it.
I just want to say for Equity that you and the other artists have done a wonderful job and we are proud and thankful for your cooperation.
My best wishes for a successful meeting and also to your painting. Please look me up when you come to the city. Remember me to Rico, Emil and Mrs. Helder.
  Sincerely,

Mr. Ed. Biberman
