In the Spring of 1949 an artist living in Colorado Springs wrote Artists Equity Association that Jean Charlot, a director of Equity, had been mistreated by the Colorado Springs Art Center.

Equity promptly wired Jean Charlot asking if it could be any service to him in the matter. The Association received a letter from Charlot stating that he had submitted his resignation, which had been accepted by the Fine Arts Center, and that he had accepted a position at the Honolulu School of Art. He stated that as far as he was concerned, the matter was closed. In view of the circumstances, no extensive investigation was made.

This statement is made to clarify the position of Artists Equity, in view of the fact that it had been drawn into the matter, and to verify that no breach of contract was involved.
