January 10, 1950

Dear Jean:

Thanks for your letter of January 6. The last letter I have received from Mitch is very much more conciliatory, and I have suggested that he hold a meeting or a series of meetings with the local artists to try to straighten the matter out locally. We have absolutely no desire to get mixed up in such a situation, particularly when it is so much a question of the personalities involved. If you had asked up to back you up in any way we would not have hesitated a moment in doing so, as I am sure you know. However, I have had the feeling right along that there was nothing for us to do but retire from the situation as rapidly as possible, because we are not in the business of looking for trouble.

We will check further on past history to have it on hand. However, I have explained frankly to Mitch that I resented his putting pressure on me, and I do not anticipate that he will put any more heat on us.

With kindest regards to you all, I am,

Sincerely yours,

Hudson D. Walker
