Dear Charlot:

I am sorry that I haven't had a chance to write you sooner.

It is apparent that my stand has been misconstrued, and I feel that the implication case upon me as an artist and as an Equity member is completely unjustified.

I did not stop at Colorado Springs to get your job, nor did I go seeking a job there. I clearly stated to the group of artists at Colorado Springs and to Mitch Wilder last June that I would not accept a job under existing circumstances (Charlot Vs. Center). Further I said no artist in my opinion should accept this job.

Also, I made the statement that I would stand up for the artist any day. I have not reversed my attitude on this since and never will.

I should like to say that Hudson and I work very closely on both action and policy of Equity. As he wrote you, "we never contemplated making any statement or taking any action without your approval."

It goes without saying that I would not have joined Equity or continued to work for it if I did not believe in the integrity of artists and that it is for our betterment.

I hope sometime in the near future when you are in New York that you will call me (OR 4-3096) and we can soberly talk this over.

Sincerely,
Yasuo Kuniyoshi

P.S. Enclosed is a copy of the letter I sent Tom.
