5.

In closing I should like to appeal to every member, not only to get members but to help build our organization so as to turn policy into accomplished fact. Call Hudson Walker our able and genial Executive Director and tell him that you would like to work and there will be plenty for you to do. Or see our ever-sympathetic Miss Helen Martin after the meeting is over and arrange to help.

Finally, I should like to say that although Equity is concentrating all its energies on economics matters it is not averse to meeting the artist on other grounds. The artist needs to associate with his fellow artists, and his thoughts, even if he is an Equity member, do turn to other things. Equity will sponsor get-togethers on almost every level, from general discussions of esthetic problems to just ordinary brawls. I am sure if we see each other more often we shall have a better understanding and a chance to pursue constructive ideas.

Let us not be drowned in the tides of confusion. The artist wants acceptance as a human being. Together we can work toward that end and where there are infringements on our economic and cultural interests we shall not take a back seat but resort [[strikeout]] political action[[/strikeout]]to all legal means including political and legislative action to permit artists to exist upon the fruits of their work.
