artists also donated 10% of work sold. Exhibitions for local Equity members were given in galleries in Los Angeles.

Recently we were instrumental in bringing to the attention of the Metropolitan Museum of Art the need for application of the Hearn Fund. As you know there are now plans for using this Fund for acquiring and exhibiting works of art, and we have submitted our proposals for a series of democratic shows. These proposals were received with enthusiasm and will, we expect be the basis of the program.

We were continuously consulted by the Wildenstein Galleries in regard to the 1949 Hallmark Art contest. We had some good suggestions to offer for a fair competition, and our suggestions were almost all accepted.

In order to function nationally we are shaping our program to embrace the over-all membership, as against a handful of well known artists.  Also, the fact that there is a concentration of artists in certain localities, which makes for a stronger group, has given rise to misunderstandings. The Board of Directors are well aware of these problems and with that in mind a Steering Committee was appointed to revaluate and revamp our activities on a national basis. This committee has been working for the last few months and has mapped out the following 4 large objectives:
1. Local Chapters
2. Exhibitions
3. Economic Projects
4. Government Projects

As  a result of this report, here are a few of the things that have been begun and that we will continue working towards:
