In 1947, when a handful of artists projected Equity, we had no constitution to guide us, although we did have a number of artists with organizational experience. For that reason, and only that reason, these artists worked incessantly to bring Equity to this [[strikethrough]] point [[/strikethrough]] stage.

Today, we can proudly point to 1600 members. It is not enough by any means, but if we receive the same support and firm belief as shown at the very start, with everyone offering his help, not thinking of personal gain, we can easily climb the highest mountain. [[strikethrough]] Then [[/strikethrough]] By each member [[strikethrough]] can [[/strikethrough]] helping to sell Equity [[strikethrough]] and therefore [[/strikethrough]] we can consolidate our internal unity and expand our strength.

Last summer, I was sort of a roving ambassador while traveling cross country. Some of the places I visited were, [[strikethrough]] Kansas City, Colorado Springs, [[/strikethrough]] Los Angeles, San Francisco, Portland, Oregon, Seattle, etc. [[strikethrough]] Twin Cities, Madison, Wisconsin, and just recently Boston; the previous year Chicago, Iowa City, Baton Rouge, New Orleans, Philadelphia, Detroit, Cleveland. [[/strikethrough]] It was a fine opportunity to contact Equity members and when possible, meetings were arranged by artists in the vicinity.
