The East and West Association
Devoted to mutual knowledge and understanding of the life of the Oriental and the American peoples

Forty East Forty-ninth Street, New York City

February 11, 1942

Dear Mr. Kuniyoshi:

I hope very much that you will consent to serve as a member of the Intercultural Committee of this Association, the plan and purposes of which are described in the enclosed memorandum.
Dr. Lin Yutang has consented to serve as chairman of the Intercultural Committee, on which we hope to bring together one or two persons representing each of the various cultures and countries with which we are concerned, such as Chinese, Indian, Iranian, Arabian, Polynesian, Malayian and a number of others, including those of North America.

We believe that such a committee, meeting once or twice a year, would serve as an invaluable guide to all the other activities of the Association. It might also appoint one or more sub-committees which would engage in more frequent activities.
We plan to call the first meeting very soon, and I shall be anxious to know whether we may count you a member of the Committee.

Sincerely Yours,

Pearl S. Buck
