I don't really care which it is excepting that all my painting years have been spent and developed here.

I may be slow in producing, but this man completely romanticizes the fact by saying I finish two or three paintings a year. Nearer to the truth - I complete ten or twelve a year.

Artists Equity Association, I am sorry to say has only 1700 members, not 17000. Also for the information of the Japanese artists and public, the American artist is social and happy to meet people. Not as stated, unwilling to be friendly because he has a dealer who takes care of his public relations.

One thing more - about sending photographs to Japan. He didn't understand that I had promised to gather photographs of the work of Equity members to send to Japan - not to send only my photographs. Eventually we hope to have exchange exhibitions.

In explanation of this letter, I do not know Japanese well enough to feel confident to write or speak it clearly. This is not a pose nor an affectation. I have litte [[little]] occasion to use it. My previous letters to you most likely indicated my limited use of the Japanese language.

You know as well as I do that every creative person without a credo or direction cannot get very far and usually amounts to very little. The more I paint, the more I realize how important this is to me.

If you can get the Mainichi to print a retraction, I would be most grateful. I don't know if this is possible but I sincerely hope so. I don't have any hard feelings about Mr. T. for I don't believe he understands the artist's attitude. Now that I have told you about this, I feel much easier. At least I have made it plain and it is for the record. I want you to keep this as proof that I was entirely misquoted and misrepresented on facts that are very important to me.

I am sorry to bother you with this and hope it will not cause any unnecessary trouble. I do appreciate the newspaper's interest and want to thank you for your kind efforts on my behalf.

My wife joins me in sending you both our best wishes,
