Dear Mr. Kuniyoshi:
I have received from Dr. Bunce, Civil Information & Education Section, GHQ, SCAP, a copy of the letter sent to SCAP by Mr. Washburn of the Carnegie Institute. Mr Washburn's letter to SCAP was for the purpose of requesting clearance for the paintings [[illegible]] Mr. Bunce, however, informed me that no SCAP clearance will be necessary, and that all arrangements may be made directly between this Association and Mr. Washburn. He said that a similar reply will be sent directly to Mr. Washburn.

Meanwhile, I have learned through the copy of Mr. Washburn's letter that 17 paintings of 17 Japanese artists have been tentatively selected for the exhibition, and we certainly feel it a great pleasure and honor.

I at once sent a letter to Mr. Washburn to inform him that no SCAP clearance is necessary and to thank him for his interest and efforts toward materializing Japan's participation in the exhibition. I also assured him that we will arrange matters in close collaboration with the Mainichi Press who has promised us their support, and that we are eagerly awaiting his detailed instructions.

I am enclosing a list of the paintings with dates of production which we did not write the back of the photographs. Perhaps it is already too late, but anyway we are sending them for your information.

Thanking you again for all you have done for us and looking forward to your next correspondence, I remain

Yours sincerely,
U. Ihara
