C.B Fisk Dear Sir I have the honor most respectfully to ask a position in your Department of the "Freedmens Bureau" I was detailed by orders of Lieut Gen U.S. Grant in 1862 as Superintendent of Freedmen which position I ocupied until last Fall when through excessive labor having Charge in Arkansas of the "Home Farm" for Freedmen Wood yard and large Camp my health became impared My health is now good, and my heart is, and has been in this great work I deem it unnecessary to multiply refrences but could refer you to Bishop Kingsley my old Clap mate in the ministry and for years members of the same Conference (I am now a member of the Illinois Conference) The Gentlemen who have volunteered the inclosed recomendations have been acquainted with me during the war in the different relations of Chap. Capt & Superintendent of Freedmen
