Mr. Harper Williams showed me a summons from you requiring me to appear before you to-day in the case of Abuer Williams (Freedman) vs said Harper Williams.  He also showed me a copy of the charges brought by a said Abuer against said Williams.

It being out of my power to appear personally I write you this, which you may consider given in under oath.

The charge of Abuer that Mr. Williams left his plantation and fled into the interior is without the cast shadow of truth. Mr. W. was out absent a day from his farm, he was absent from his house a day or two, while the hangers-on of the army was robbing; but saw his freed people on some time every day (this can be proven by a dozen or more witnesses)

As far as the division of Abuer's crop is concerned – it was divided as Major Wickersham gave me orders viz 2/3 to hands and further as Mr. Canolt who was present knows & will testify  Lt. Sanders who was agent of
