Col Franks

Sir
The bearer William Walker freedman is and has been for a long time in our employ and is a man of good character. He states that on Saturday last a sow & pig belonging to him broke out of the pen and were taken to the pound and were sold the same day at 3 oclock. The sow sold for 8 dollars & the pig for 2 dollars. He has offered the buyer a Mr Kennedy first 8 dollars & then $14 all the money he had for the sow but he demands $20. The buyer of the pig is willing if Kennedy will take cost for the sow, to take last for the pig.
It seems to us that the sale without advertising is improper - Walker was at work & went after his swine just as soon as his days work was finished and if the matter can be placed in proper shape it will be a matter of simple fairness to Walker that it should be done. Respy Yrs
