Among many instances of prevailing wrong and injustice brought to my notice by the colored people of this section I beg leave respectfully to call your immediate attention to the following. About four years ago the negroes of the estate of Mrs Absalom Davis Senr, were sold at public auction as was customary in this country in the balmy days of slavery, when the owner died. Among the negroes was a woman with a number of young children. The mother was purchased by one man and the children by various persons. One, a little girl about ten years of age at this time, and six years when sold, was purchased by a man
