Your communication of the 29th ultimo, asking for instructions in the cases of Edward T. Powers John Maultsby, Ralph Lutterloch, Samuel Hall and John G. Leggett, charged with murder, in connection with W.J. Tolar, is received. In reply, I am instructed by the Commanding General to say that the prisoners are reported by Col. Bomford, Commanding Officer at Raleigh, N.C. under date of November 26th, 1867 to have been admitted to bail in the sum of Five thousand ($5000) dollars each, under instructions given from these Headquarters. The trial of these cases is suspended, and no further proceedings will be had against them without further, instructions from these Headquarters.
